Issue 5

Late spring 2002 kicks off the busiest 18 months in TheThe's 23 year history. Johnson's boutique record company Lazarus have raided the Sony
vaults and have, in a joint venture with Epic, remastered and repackaged the entire TheThe catalogue.

45 RPM

May 20th sees the release of a 15 track collection of TheThe's finest singles entitled "45 RPM". This is the first time that Matt Johnson's rich musical legacy, stretching back to 1979, has been brought together in a compilation of any sort. This collection was sonically restored at New York's Masterdisk studios by the legendary Howie Weinberg. It includes three brand new recordings and the first time release on CD of several rare and early recordings. A limited-edition CD, featuring 12 inch mixes of 8 The The singles, will also be available with initial copies of the "45 RPM" set.
Featuring an ornate, jewel-encrusted TheThe logo on the packaging, "45 RPM" is set to be one of the key releases for 2002.

PILLAR BOX RED

Produced by Clive Langer & Alan Winstanley this is the first single from the album and will be released mid-June as a 4 track 'Interpretations' EP (also featuring 3 cover versions of the song by guest artists to be announced shortly) TheThe are currently filming their first video in 7 years. Working once again with long time collaborator the legendary Tim Pope.

DECEMBER SUNLIGHT (Cried Out)

A brand new recording of the NakedSelf song produced by ex-TheThe bass player James Eller and featuring a witheringly beautiful duet with Liz
Horsman. To be released as a 4 track 'Interpretations EP' in the late summer.

DEEP DOWN TRUTH

Produced by Clive Langer & Alan Winstanley it features vocals by the wonderful Angela McCluskey of Wild Colonials & Telepopmusik fame. To be released as 4 track 'Interpretations' EP in the Autumn.

THE LONDON TOWN BOX SET

Sceduled for release in late July, this beautifully packaged limited edition collector's box set contains the remastered/repackaged classic albums Soul Mining, Infected, Mind Bomb and Dusk. The box includes a bonus CD featuring a 30 minute late night mix of TheThe's musical history by Ian Peel - 'In The A.M.' It also includes a short film of Matt being interviewed by Johnny Marr about TheThe's long and eventful history.

SILENT TONGUE

An album of TheThe's film music, plus many previously unreleased instrumental pieces from the past 20 years. To be released in the late Autumn.

35mm

A DVD box set of the films of TheThe, including the Infected Movie, TheThe versus The World, From Dusk 'til Dawn plus many others, is scheduled for release at the end of the year.

PAST/PRESENT/FUTURE

A major world tour is planned for the Autumn and will constitute TheThe performing music from different eras on different nights in a residency
situation. Full details of this to be announced later.
