All The The news that's fit to print

Issue 15

Seasons greetings to all of our beloved readers/listeners/viewers from all of the staff at This Is TheThe Day from here, our mountain retreat in the Norwegian mountains, during our annual staff skiing and drinking trip. And here we are, all dressed in white outfits whilst staggering back to the chalet in a blizzard (I’m the one in the middle!)

In this edition we bring you part 5 of Johnny Marr’s interview with MJ plus two famous interviews from the Lazarus archives. Charles Neal’s interview with Matt from his cult classic book ‘TAPE DELAY - Confessions From The Eighties Underground’ and Martin Roach’s interview with Matt from his famous book of nineties interviews ‘THE RIGHT TO IMAGINATION AND MADNESS - An Essential Collection of Candid Interviews With the UK’s Top Alternative Songwriters.’

No news yet on when the Showroom will actually open for business I am very afraid to tell you. I know we promised that it would be open by now but we are held hostage to circumstances beyond our control and still awaiting the green light.

Some holiday reading material and interesting links for you all to be getting along with while you digest the mince pies and turkey including some words of wisdom from Matt’s favourite philosopher Silver Birch, some digging around in the distant past of the human race by Michael Cremo and for those of you in the USA, and with access to a radio or tv set, a link to one of the better news programmes currently operating in your country, Amy Goodman’s Democracy NOW!

Happy Holidays and God bless us all for 2003!

EXTRACTS FROM THE TEACHINGS OF SILVER BIRCH

“Who are you? Do you know? You know just that facet that is expressed through your body, but that is only the pin point as distinct from the larger life which is beyond it.

When you say you would like to find out which is you and which is not you, you have to begin by discovering which is you altogether. Do you think that you have in this earthly life expressed anything but a tiny segment of your whole self? And do you think that the consciousness that is registered now is anything but a tiny fraction of the greater, complete consciousness that is you?

How are you to decide then which is your thought, your imagination, and which is the impression, the guidance which comes from your larger self or from higher realms that are using you?

You must get the proper perspective. You must realize that you are spiritual beings expressing yourselves through physical bodies and that the spirit is the supreme part of you. The spirit is the higher, the body is the lower. The spirit is the master, the body is the servant. The spirit is king, the body is the subject. The spirit is that part of you which is divine.

It is the self-same spirit which has created, devised and fashioned the whole universe. You have in embryo, in miniature, in microcosm, all the vast powers that belong to what you call God. If you would allow this innate divine strength to rise to the surface, to dominate your lives, you would banish every care, anxiety and worry, because you would know that there is nothing that could happen in your world over which you could not triumph. That is what you have to learn. It is not easy.

Give attention to your body as the house in which you live. But it is only the house, it is not you. Being the house, it must be kept in good condition, in good repair, so that the tenant can be amply looked after. But always remember it is only the house; it is not the tenant.

That same power which fashioned the universe is the power which is responsible for life. Life is not physical or material, life is spirit, and spirit is life. Wherever there is life there is spirit and where there is spirit there is life.

FROM THE BOOK BY MARTIN ROACH

The son of a publican, Matt Johnson was born and grew up in the East End of London, where he became the young friend of various sportsmen, villains and local characters who frequented his father’s premises. From its initial release in 1993 to the present, Forbidden Archeology has shocked and delighted readers around the globe with a veritable encyclopedia of anomalous scientific evidence challenging the standard views on human evolution.

Over the past two centuries researchers have found countless bones and artifacts showing that people like ourselves existed on earth millions of years ago. But the scientific establishment has ignored these remarkable facts because they contradict the dominant views of human origins and antiquity.

Michael Cremo and Richard L. Thompson challenge us to rethink our understanding of human origins, identity, and destiny. Forbidden Archeology takes on one of the most fundamental components of the modern scientific world view, and invites us to take a courageous first step towards a new perspective.

Their work uncovers a startling picture not only of what the evidence is and what it means but also of how science reached its story.

CONFESSIONS FROM THE EIGHTIES UNDERGROUND.

FROM THE BOOK BY CHARLES NEAL

Matt Johnson first became involved with the music industry after he left school and worked in a recording studio in Soho. However, making cups of tea proved intolerable for Johnson, who spent the next two years unemployed. He subsequently advertised in the music papers for people with similar affection towards The Residents, Throbbing Gristle and The Velvet Underground, eventually forming The The in 1979. After releasing two singles, Controversial Subject and Cold Spell Ahead, and supporting Wire, Scritti Politti, DAF, This Heat and Cabaret Voltaire live, Johnson liquidated The The; under his own name he released Burning Blue Soul in 1981- an album on which he played all the instruments and recorded for a mere eighteen hundred pounds. Re-adopting the name The The, the East-end native signed to Some Bizzare and released the album Soul Mining through CBS in 1983. Work over the next three years culminated with the release of Infected in 1986, in which Johnson explores addiction, affliction and attrition – his view of the Western condition. In addition to The The, Johnson has also recorded with The Gadgets and Marc Almond in Marc And The Mambas.

CN: How do you want people to see Matt Johnson?

MJ: I don’t know really. As a serious musician in that I’m strong in my beliefs and sincere in the music that I do...
